Sound Advice will be an important book for OTs and PTs— and hopefully for parents and educators. The stories of success…and what symptoms are telling the observer… really helped me understand how important rhythm is for understanding many of the difficulties we see in children.

Robin Abbott has put together a wonderful book about how to identify, support, and address numerous sensory issues that are evidenced in people who range from ‘on the autism spectrum’ to ‘everyday people’… Parents will benefit from understanding the auditory/vestibular system better and to know what possibilities are available for help.

A book I definitely recommend to all parents and professionals who want to know why sound and the auditory system play such a key role in the development of the child’s motor, learning, social skills and self-awareness. Sound Advice is an accessible, engaging and practical book written by someone at the front line of helping kids with an obvious sense of care…. A book for your ‘must read’ list.

Why does your child struggle? The answer is often hard to find because it involves the way your child processes sensations. In her highly informative and readable book, Robin Abbott uses her extensive clinical experience and keen powers of observation to help you look into your child’s mind, sense the world the way he or she does, and, with this new understanding, seek out the most effective therapies.

Sound Advice is an important work by a master clinician. I had several “aha moments” while reading this well-written, clinical-based book. Robin’s style of explaining the in-depth material using case-based examples makes Sound Advice accessible to parents, teachers, and young professionals working in rehabilitation. Sound Advice is a landmark publication. It is unusual for a busy clinician to take the time and put something so rigorous, and yet readable, like this book together. Reading the book was like completing an internship with Robin. When I completed the book, I thought, “Sound advice: the title is the endorsement!”
